YOU DON'T KNOW TILL YOU GO

These past 7 weeks have been really disappointing surfwise. First, it was windy and choppy for the entire month of April, and then when the winds did finally die down, the water went flattycakes. You can read the surf report to get a basic idea if it might be decent, sometimes they are correct, and other times, not even remotely close to what is going on out there. You don't really know till you go.

Last Wednesday we headed back to Sandy's for the third disappointing day in a row. We found it totally flat yet again, but luckily the sunrise decided to give us a special treat and we stayed around to soak it all in. Even if we didn't get to surf, the beautiful morning sky made it worth the trip.

I am happy to say that this morning was the first time in exactly 52 days that the waves decided to give us something to have fun with. It was a beautiful morning, with another AWESOME sunrise - made even better by the fact that we were watching it from the water instead of the parking lot - super glassy, no wind conditions, and even a visit from a friendly monk seal to add to an already perfect morning. Guess it was worth the wait.

SANDY BEACH SUNRISE but still no mo' surf.

Although Sandy's surf for the month of May has not improved yet, the beautiful sunrises have been returning.
Happy Tuesday!

APRIL DUD FOR SANDY's SURF

April was a total dud of a surf month for Sandy's. Every day was extremely windy, currenty, blown out, choppy, sloppy, mushy, soupy, washing machine waves. Even the spectacular sunrises took the month off. It was hard to find much to get stoked about out there.

But at least the crummy surf didn't bum out my painting inspiration.
Here are a few more mini's from April, and here's to hoping the winds have run their course and cleaner surf is on it's way for May!

A SIGHT TO SEA

This is a view looking from Makapu'u Beach towards Waimanalo. I always look forward to rounding the corner near the Makapu’u Lookout and catching a peek of this gorgeous view.
The aqua and teal colors in the sea are spectacular!

STILL ON THE MAINLAND

Not quite sure why, but I am still in the mood to paint pine trees, snow, and log cabins much more than palm trees, turquoise water, and tiki huts. Call me crazy, but I can only paint what I feel. So this past week has once again been dedicated to the beautiful sights of Utah and the Grand Tetons.
