Sunday, September 20th was the saddest day of my life, as I had to say goodbye to the BIGGEST little LOVE OF MY LIFE. For almost 17 wonderful years, as many of you know, Brighton went everywhere and did everything with us - except surfing and swimming. I had never been inspired to paint my little Bryguy during those years, mainly because I thought it would be impossible for me to do with a knife. But just 10 days after he was gone, he sent me the inspiration I needed to give it a try.

During the last year of Brighton's life, he had to wear Rex Specs when he went out in bright light. I purposely picked one of these images so I wouldn't have the added challenge of trying to paint his beautiful little eyes - maybe some day, but not this time. Here is my first attempt ever at painting Bry with my knife. It is, by no means, a masterpiece, but it is my Brighton. Since he left us, my world has been completely turned upside-down and backwards, but I did feel some comfort reliving many happy memories while painting him, and now I have no doubt that Brighton's Magic Paw continues to flow through me, my knife, and my paintings.

All this supervising is hard work. Time for a snooze.

Every painting started with the
Bry Magic Paw.

"...don't be sad that I am gone, be happy that I was here..."

That smile on my face is the gift he gave me each and every day.

'NEATH THE JACARANDA - And Another Oahu Lockdown

I have been blogging my artwork consistently for 12 years now, but I am afraid this may be my last entry for a while. As of yesterday, Oahu is, once again, back on "stay-at-home" lockdown because of Covid. The beaches, parks, and pools have already been closed since August 8th. The galleries and my Etsy Shop have been closed for over 5 months now. A few of the galleries that show my work have closed their doors for good, and others may follow if Hawaii economy is not allowed to reopen soon.

Things have changed so much in the past few months, and I have unfortunately run out of new paintings to share with you. My garden has become a sanctuary for now. Hoping things start to turn around soon, and revitalize my inspiration for painting.

I wish that everyone stays safe and healthy, and I leave you for now with this little painting I did right before the start of Coronavirus. It is a scene of a serene part of Maui, which I often find myself daydreaming of.

The 14 day quarantine has been reinstated for neighbor island travel, due to the rise in Covid cases on Oahu.
At least I can still visit my much missed Maui through my knife.

During these past few months, with the galleries still being closed, and the islands still trying to figure out how to handle Covid, I have been much more into gardening than painting. However, I was inspired to create another palette knife garden shed scene.
Also included below are a few photos of my happy container garden that has been keeping me busy.

Everything is grown in containers. Larger veggie plants are in 3.5 gallon buckets, while most leafy types are happy in 12 qt. dishpans!

The garden provides Ruby Red Swiss Chard, along with fresh basil & italian parsley (for pesto), to help make this yummy home-made Pesto Swiss Chard Pizza with cranberries, feta, and pecans!

My Tropical Garden has also been exploding with color lately. My Mom loves to decorate her home with cut Bird Of Paradise, and luckily I can usually keep her pretty well stocked.

Mahalo for taking the time to view my artwork.

There's nothing on this earth that can make life more worthwhile,
than the sunshine, and the warmth of a BryGuy smile!

So keep on smiling......
Keep smiling!
