S~TURNS MAUI

S-Turns, also known as Pohaku Park, is located on Maui's west coast. It is quite picturesque and a great surf spot when the swell hits right.

I was really happy with how the water turned out in this painting. YES. It really is that gorgeous tealy~aqua~turquoise in real life!

MAUNALUA BAY FROM PORTLOCK

Portlock has public access to secluded little beaches such as this one. With Hawaii Kai and Maunalua Bay in the background, it is a great place to watch the sun go down at the end of the day.

'Tis The Season.....

I spent yesterday afternoon at the Kailua Island Treasures Art Gallery. Filled in the pukas on my wall from several paintings that recently sold.
I am very thankful to everyone that supports my artwork.

BELATED BIRTHDAY GEM

A little late, but worth the wait.
Yesterday I went and picked up my Belated Birthday Board, an Eric Arakawa Element, 5’ 10”. I got to try it out this morning and it’s an awesome fun board. Many girls would probably prefer diamonds or other “precious stones”, as they are so called, as a Birthday gift, but I will take this little gem over those any day!

HULOPO'E BEACH ~ LANA'I

Here are two beach scenes I painted while on my Lana’i Paintcation. They are both of Hulopo’e, but from two different viewpoints.

Many mornings you can find Hulopo'e Beach completely empty.

“All To Yourself”
11x14 Palette Knife Painting

This is the view from the Manele Bay resort, overlooking Hulopo'e Bay. Sitting under the single palm tree, watching the spinner dolphins play, with the sound of the palm fronds rustling in the breeze, it is a beautiful spot!

MORE LANA'I DREAM HALE's

Here are a few more Plantation Houses I painted while on Lana'i.

This one challenged me because, not only was I not used to painting Plantation Houses with palette knife, but this composition of just a corner of a house filling the entire scene was something I had never done before.

"Lana'i Teal & Ti"
14x11

Below is an earlier painting I did when I first got here. I love all the metal rooftops and flowers that make Lanai's landscape so colorful!

"Colorful Upcountry"
Lana'i City
11x14

And a few 6x6 Mini's.

TOTALLY LANA'I~d

We have been on Lana'i for a little over three weeks now.
I have enjoyed seeing the island, meeting the friendly locals, and painting many of the wonderful sights of this beautiful Island. Some people would not last three days on Lana'i, much less three weeks. There is no night life, and not much shopping, bars or restaurants. But if you are the type of person that doesn't need all of that, I am pretty sure you will love Lana'i.

It is one of the most peaceful places I have ever known. There are no dogs barking or sirens wailing throughout the night. No traffic noise because there is no traffic! There is only one gas station on the entire island, two markets, and a handful of small eateries (aside from the two high end resorts at Koele and Manele).
At night, you can see a billion stars in the sky, and the quietness is unbelievable. There are no traffic lights, the speed limit in town is 20 MPH, and yes, people do still wave and say "Aloha" even if they do not know you.
It is a different place and a different way of life, and I hope it doesn't change any time soon!

Here are just some of the wonderful things about Lana'i that I will miss.

Colorful island scenery.

Beautiful deserted beaches.

Friendly locals.

Cool misty mornings.

Gorgeous sunrises.

Colorful rooftops.

Cook Pines leading the way.

Lana'i Ohana Poke Market.

Hanalei Poi to go with the poke.
(Best poi ever!)

Lanai's beautiful community pool
(to work off all that poi and poke!)

And long evening golf course walks with Brighton
and his Lana'i buddy, Leilei.

And here are a few things I won't miss as much.

Staining red dirt that covers everything.
Milk $8.29 a gallon.
Gasoline $5.79 a gallon.

I guess it's a small price to pay for living in such a unique place!

ONLY ON LANA'I !
