HONOLUA HACK

Honolua Bay is on the island of Maui, just north of Kapalua. It is a gorgeous bay with great views of the island of Molokai in the background. It is also an awesome surf spot in the winter months. I painted this little scene of surfers, hacking up the waves, in celebration of one of the final WSL Surf Events of the season. The Maui Women's Pro starts in just two more weeks. Wish I could be there to watch them hack up the waves fo' real!

HYPNOTIC TIDALFALLS

This shelf of lava can be found on the Halona end of Sandy Beach.

During certain tides, the waves filter in from the ocean and gently flow down the ledge of lava rock into a shallow pool below. The water then slowly drains before the next wave arrives, and the entire waterfall process repeats itself.

A most relaxing atmosphere, especially early mornings, when the beach is still empty and the sky is showing off it's dawn colors.

THE SANDY's SHARK SHINDIG

This morning while surfing Sandy's, we were entertained by a not-so-small acrobatic shark.
I'm on the left, with a front row seat. Needless to say, we didn't stick around for an encore.

STORMY MAKAPU'U

Makapu'u, on a sunny tropical day, is pretty spectacular. But even in stormy weather, the surf can put on a dramatic show of it's own!

MAINLAND PAINTING APRON

I wear an apron when I paint, but they all happen to be tropical Hawaiian Style. I pick which apron to wear according to what matches the type of painting I am doing, and when painting mainland scenes, it felt weird having to wear a Hawaiian print apron. So today, I found some fabric that felt very "mainland-y".

I busted out my sewing machine and got to work.

The end result was an apron that I will be happy to wear when painting my
"Un-Hawaiian" scenes!

Can't wait to try it out.
